...His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it was a pearly planet, fueled from a blessed tree, an olive tree, not eastern, nor western. Its oil would almost illuminate, even if no fire has touched it. Light upon Light... - Verse 35, Surah An-Noor, The Quran
Hi, I am Proshno!
I am a seeker of light.
By day, I navigate the algorithms and logic of Silicon Valley as a software engineer. But when the golden hour beckons, when storm clouds gather over distant peaks, or when dawn breaks across an endless horizon, I answer a different calling—one written in the language of light, shadow, and the sublime poetry of the natural world.
My journey began half a world away, in the vibrant heart of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where concrete and chaos reigned. Yet my father understood what my young soul needed. He would spirit our family away to the countryside, where I first learned to breathe—truly breathe. There, among cloud-veiled mountains, silver-sand shores kissed by sapphire seas, and emerald forests threaded with winding rivers, I discovered that nature speaks in whispers to those willing to listen.
The first time I truly heard her voice was through the viewfinder of a Minolta Maxxum 5 SLR camera—a gift from my brother Aunko, a portal to seeing the world anew. That camera became my companion in wonder, teaching me that to photograph is to witness, to honor, to preserve the fleeting sacred.
California welcomed me with open arms and endless horizons. The San Francisco Bay Area became my home, but the wild became my sanctuary. From the ancient redwoods of the coastal fog to the granite cathedrals of the Sierra, from Death Valley's stark eternity to Big Sur's dramatic cliffs—each landscape offers an invitation to witness, moment upon moment, beauty upon beauty, and of course light upon light.
I chase the ever-changing dance of illumination across infinitely intricate landscapes. I seek the emotion hidden in texture, the stories told by shifting shadows, the quiet magnificence of a world that existed long before us and will endure long after. In the humbling vastness of nature, I find both my smallness and my purpose.
This is my art. This is my offering. This is how I celebrate the light. And that is what humbles me to love and revere more profoundly the Owner of light!
